Please come and join Councillor Thompson, Diane Huffman, Project Manager, Parks and Recreation Master Plan and Denise Bellingham, Recreation Supervisor in making sure our recreational needs are heard. To ensure that this Master Plan meets the needs of our residents we are seeking your input. If you are unable to attend the meeting on July 14th, please visit www.Ottawa.ca/recreation for background information and to answer the important questions presented. When: Tuesday, July 14th at 7:00 p.m. Please contact Jennifer Charlebois at (613) 580-2490 for more information.
STRANDHERD BRIDGE FINALLY APPROVED The NCC Board met Tuesday and approved the design of the new $48 million bridge that will connect Prince of Wales Drive on the north side of the river with Earl Armstrong Road, on the south side just west of Riverside South. The new bridge will boast an above deck, triple arch-style bridge that will include 5 lanes of traffic, 3 of which are for car and truck traffic, another lane for transit and a 5th for cyclists and pedestrians. Parks Canada, who approved the bridge last week, will discuss with the City how to minimize the impact of construction and include a commemoration of the Rideau Canal’s Heritage Status. It is expected that the bridge will open in the spring of 2011. Five years ago, in collaboration with Ottawa’s Agricultural Community, the Ottawa Food Bank launched the Food Aid Program to purchase and process beef from local farmers. We are excited to report that our 2009 Food Aid Day BBQ on Friday, June 5th was a huge success and generated over $105,000 towards this very important initiative – the only one of its kind in the entire country! Since its inception, Food Aid has distributed over 390,000 pounds of ground beef to needy people in the National Capital Region. It is often said that the goal of most food banks is to put themselves out of business. But the reality is, in the Ottawa Food Bank’s 25th year, the need is now greater than ever! In order to continue the Food Aid Program, the Ottawa Food Bank must rely on people in our Community who lend their support. We are proud to report that 100% of the proceeds from the BBQ will be put towards this program. I was thrilled to help cover the cost of the rental of the BBQ for the event. The City is proud to host a one-day mobile household hazardous waste collection depot on Sunday, July 12th. The depot will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Kanata Business Park, 411 Legget Drive. This depot provides a convenient way for you to help keep the environment free of hazardous household waste. Residents are reminded that only household waste will be accepted (maximum 100 litres) at the depot. No commercial waste accepted. For a complete listing of acceptable household hazardous waste, visit the City's website at www.ottawa.ca/hhw. Avoid line-ups for the following products:
